John 14:1–15 (NASB95)

1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. 7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.” 8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. 13 “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. 15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Title: Jesus and the Father 標題：耶穌與天父

  1. There are three imperatives in this verse. Please list them. What are these imperatives essential in your faith walk? 這節經文有三個命令。請列出它們。這些命令在你的信心之路如何應用？

 

  1. Jesus said as a follow-up to his saying that the disciples cannot come to where He was going (13:33). How is His saying comforting to the disciples? Why is it important to us who read this 2000 years later? 耶穌這裡是接著13:33說，門徒不能去他所去的地方。祂的這番話如何安慰門徒？為什麼這對兩千年後的我們如此重要？

13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

4-6.        What is the way to go where Jesus was going?  How are some of us like Thomas in not knowing the way?  Jesus is the way (the door, John 10:9, the resurrection, John 11:25), the truth (John 1:14; 8:45; 18:37), and the life (John 1:4; 11:25).  耶穌要去的地方，路在哪裡呢？我們當中有些人也會像多馬一樣，如何地的不認識？耶穌是道路（門，約翰福音10:9；復活，約翰福音11:25），真理（約翰福音1:14；8:45；18:37），生命（約翰福音1:4；11:25）。

16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 “After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. 20 “In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24 “He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me. 25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. 27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. 28 “You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 “Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. 30 “I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; 31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Title: The Helpers 保惠師

  1. Jesus said the Holy Spirit is another Helper (παράκλητος). Who is the other Helper?  How long will He be with us?  What is the significance of this promise?  耶穌說聖靈是另一位保惠師（παράκλητος）。這位保惠師是誰？他會與我們同在多久？這應許的意義是什麼？

 

  1. What is the name of the Helper? Who is the truth?  Why can’t the world receive the Spirit?  How come the Spirit abides with the disciples?  保惠師的名字是？真理是誰？為什麼世人不能領受聖靈？聖靈為何與門徒同在？

 

  1. When will the disciples feel like they are orphans? When will Jesus come to them? 門徒什麼時候會覺得自己像孤兒？耶穌什麼時候會到他們這裡來？

 

  1. The word see is present active tense; it implies an ongoing action. How is that the world would no longer see Jesus, but the disciples would?  How does that apply to you?   What is the promise in this verse?  「看見」這個字是現在主動時態；它暗示著正在進行的動作。為什麼世人不再看見耶穌，門徒卻能看見呢？這跟你有什麼關係？這節經文裡有什麼應許？

 

  1. What is that day? What is the experience that tells us that Jesus is in us and we are in Jesus?  那日是什麼時候？什麼樣的經驗告訴我們耶穌在我們裡面，我們也在耶穌裡面？

22-24.   What is Judas’ question?  What is the essence of Jesus’ answer in verses 23-24?  Judas may be the same person as Thaddeus (Matt. 10:3; Mark 3:18) 猶大的問題是什麼？耶穌在23-24節的回答的要點是什麼？猶大可能和達太是同一人（太10:3；可3:18）

 

25-26.    What are the two things that the Holy Spirit would do for the disciples?  What are all things?  聖靈會為門徒做哪兩件事？一切的事情是什麼？

 

  1. What does Jesus give us? How does Jesus differentiate what He gives?  What are the two commands from Jesus as a result of what He gives us?  耶穌賜給了我們什麼？耶穌如何分辨祂所賜予的？耶穌賜給我們的兩個命令是什麼？

30-31.   Why is Jesus implying that He would end the conversation?  What does that tell us about the impending suffering and the cross?  How does that give us comfort amid our own suffering?  為什麼耶穌暗示祂會結束這段對話？這如何告訴我們關於即將來臨的苦難和十字架？這事情又如何在我們自己的苦難中給予我們安慰？
